Later Will meets his real uncle and makes jokes about his weight. Later in his new bedroom Uncle Phil tells Will to clean up and encourages him to be more like Carlton. Uncle Phil has a party in hopes that the guests (many of whom hold positions in governmental authority) will assist him in becoming an arbiter of justice. Unfortunately, Will ruins the evening, and has already proved to be a negative influence on the family, as Phil has asked Ashley to praise the lord for this dinner, but instead she raps it. Surprisingly, it turns out that everyone the family is beginning to grow fond of Will. Uncle Phil explains how he "also grew up on the streets" and respected Malcolm X who is Will's hero; but he also uses his mind and works hard to achieve and so should Will.

| Philip's parents come to visit for the weekend when he wins a prestigious award. It's revealed Uncle Phil's nickname is Zeke. A reporter comes to the Banks' house to interview Philip about his life, but plans to kill the story for finding him boring. Will, having heard her saying that, tells her embarrassing stories about Philip's past "barnyard life" he heard from Philip's parents. This goes down well with the newspaper editors, and Uncle Phil's parents, but Uncle Phil seems ashamed until he makes his acceptance speech when he shows renewed pride in his roots. | |||||

Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv try and discourage Hilary from falling in love with him by feining great warmth to the idea until she jokingly says she is going to marry him to gauge their reaction, which is outrage. In the end Will confides to Aunt Viv just how good a friend Ice Tray had been to him when he was the only studious kid from a class of drop-outs in Philadelphia.
